Easy Cheap Tombstones
You will need the following items to make your own easy cheap tombstones. All items below can be purchased from your local arts and craft shop or thrift shop.
You will need:
gray foam board
black poster paint
1. The foam board comes in sheets that are about the size of poster board. Cut them in half so that you will have two tombstones.
2. Paint your epitaph on the gray side of the foam board. You can put anything on your tombstone that you want. There are some great suggestions of what to write on the epitaphs page. Maybe some of those ideas would get your own juices flowing.
3. Cut the wooden dowels in half. Use two of the cut dowels per board. Push about half the length of the dowel into the bottom edge of the foam board, the dowel going straight up. Be careful of the dowels going in at an angle, the dowel could come out on the front. Insert one on each side. This will make for the stand.
4. Push the other half of the dowels into the yard.
If you are real handy with wood, you can make your tombstones out of wood. You can either use a wood burner to engrave your epitaphs or paint them on. That's a bit more time consuming but can get a more realistic look to them.
Your tombstones don't have to be perfect. You want some of them to be "broken" so if you have an oops and something breaks, go with it - make it part of the prop.
There are a couple of ways you can get your basic items.
The easiest and quickest way but not always the cheapest is purchasing all your items from a store. There are some really cool looking ready made tombstones available.
