Haunt's Description/Storyline:

“Of course,” you say to yourself, “It’s not real. Those things can’t happen.” You tell yourself this, and even believe it…until the lights go out…the silence falls…and there is nothing but the night. You close your eyes, and nightmarish images play across your vision like a demented picture-show, and you force yourself to open them again. What if the nightmares are real…and there’s no waking up from them?

Of course, there are the stories of the people who’ve disappeared in the woods, and the bizarre symbols found all over the place. However, most disturbing is the feeling of thousands of eyes on you beneath the canopy of trees, and a low hum, barely perceptible over the wind through the leaves…a hum of voices, though no words can be distinguished. It is rumored that on certain nights, you can hear the screams of those who have disappeared (or been taken) into the woods, never to be seen again by mortal eyes. Following these screams, so the stories say, is a strange chant in an unearthly language that grows in volume, followed by one final scream that cuts the night…and then silence.

What becomes of those poor souls who are lost in the shadows of the woods? Strange stories abound of monsters…creatures not meant to exist…beings warped beyond all recognition by powers no mortal can hope to perceive. Were they once human, or once animals? Have they always been monsters? Do they even exist? You think not…you hope not…your pray not…

Worse yet…rumors tell of a strange scent born upon the winds on some nights…the scent of burning flesh and brimstone. Though there have been no reports of fires in the woods, the scent is unmistakable…accompanied by the pungent aroma of sulfur. The fearful whisper that demons not of this world walk the earth, delighting in the torment of those trapped in the woods. What these beings would do with these poor souls…perhaps it is best not to say…

Behind all of this looms one dark figure, hands held out like a demented puppet-master, the monsters and creatures under his thrall dancing like twisted marionettes. The silhouette is of the one they call the Dark Master…a being so terrible that his mere presence thins the void between our world and the next. They say that he is a perverse deity to a secret cult that seek to commune with him through dire rituals of human sacrifice and daemon-summoning, hoping to gain his favor and to receive gifts of knowledge and power from their Dark Master. What horrors could he unleash upon us helpless mortals with but a flick of his blackened wrist? What nightmares might he pluck from our minds and make real before our terrified eyes? What terrible fate might he have in store for those who do not bow before him?

“No,” you tell yourself adamantly, “None of it is real…just old stories and legends best forgotten…” …but you won’t forget, no matter how badly you wish you could. In the darkness, a voice calls to you…a siren song that no mortal can resist…and you realize that it is the call of the woods, beckoning you forward to meet your fate…in the shadows of…the Walk of Nightmares.
